Echinops ritro L. ssp. ruthenicus (M. Bieb.) Nyman

Flora Europaea the original Linnean specimen (only typical species) perennial, H Pontic-Pannonian-Balkan (the subspecies) Festucion valesiacae, Agropyro-Kochion, Quercetalia pubescentis (Dobrudja, Transylvania), Scabiosion argenteae, Festucion vaginatae (Moldavia) R34, R16, R64, R4160-4162 habitats     A xeric to mesoxeric species which is quite scattered in Transylvania and southern Moldavia and rather frequent in Dobrudja, especially along the shores of the Black Sea. Pictures taken in between 2 Mai and Vama Veche, Constanta county, on 7th of August 2006. The individuals here belongs to var. tenuifolius Fisch. which has leaves very much like E. ritro L; but this latter species is a dwarf non-branched plant. dr.
